By Amina Abdul Salam CAIRO, April 2, 2018 - A lecture was recently given at the Heliopolis Sporting Club in Cairo to educate men about prostate cancer and raise awarenes of the disease. Prostate cancer is the 4th most common cancer in Egypt. Men over the age of 55 are in the risk group, which is 10 per cent of Egypt's male population. The lecture which was organised by Cansurvive, a non-profit organiation, stressed that it was essential to educate Egyptian men about the disease and encourage them to take proactive steps towards health management as approximately 65 per cent of men who are diagnosed with prostate cancer in Egypt will die of it. During the educational session headed by Dr Mohssen Mokhtar, Head of the Oncology Department at Cairo University, the lecture also covered diagnosis and treatment as well as nutrition advice on how to stay healthy as men grow older. Doctors advise that screening should take place regularly starting from the age of 50. Leading a healthy lifestyle is a way to prevent the cancer and treat it. A healthy diet that includes lots of fibre and excludes sugars, fats and red meats coupled with regular exercise are essential. "Cancer is a growing concern across the world and in Egypt. We are very pleased that many men attended the event and we hope they will share the information about the importance of regular checks and early diagnosis," according to, Huda Shaarawi, Executive Manager of Cansurvive.
