CAIRO, March 13, 2018 - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi asserted on Tuesday Egypt's keenness on maintaining joint action to enhance co-operation between Egypt and Jordan in a way that contributes to achieving the interests of both countries and their peoples. The President's statement came during his meeting with visiting Jordanian Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Hani Al-Mulki in Cairo on Tuesday, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said. Attending the meeting from the Egyptian side were Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, Minister of Defence General Sedqi Sobhi and Minister of Trade and Industry Tarek Qabil. From the Jordanian side, the meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Economic Affairs Jafar Hassan, Minister of State for Media Affairs Mohammad Al Momeni and the Jordanian Ambassador to Cairo Ali el-Ayed. During the meeting, President Sisi expressed appreciation for the firm stances of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan towards Egypt. He also asserted the special relations that bind the two countries, particularly in the light of the circumstances and challenges facing the region which behoove keeping up intensive coordination between the two sides at all levels. For his part, the Jordanian premier asserted the strength and solidity of relations that bind Egypt and Jordan as well as Jordan's keenness on enhancing such ties in various fields. PM Al-Mulki also referred to the importance of pursuing coordination with Egypt on various issues of mutual concern, especially in the light of the significance of the Egyptian role in the region. This, he added, should come in a way that contributes to facing common challenges facing the Arab nation and pushing forward strategic and distinguished relations between the two countries, spokesman Radi said. Discussions at the meeting also covered relations between Egypt and Jordan with the two sides expressing their satisfaction with the level of ongoing coordination between the two countries. In this regard, President Sisi and Jordanian PM Al-Mulki asserted the importance of bolstering economic relations and increasing trade exchange between the two countries in a way that goes in tandem with the level of political relations and historical links that bind the two countries. The meeting also included discussions on the latest developments of the regional situation, especially that in Syria and Iraq. President Sisi and the Jordanian PM asserted the importance of finding political solutions to the crises facing these two countries in order to preserve their territorial integrity and protect the potentials of their peoples. Also yesterday, Jordanian PM Al-Mulki held a separate meeting with Minister of Defence Sedqi Sobhi during which they discussed co-operation between the armed forces of both countries. Jordanian Minister of Trade, Industry and Supply Ya'rub Al Qudah, who accompanied PM Al-Mulki , also held meetings with Trade and Industry Minister Qabil and Minister of Investment and International Co-operation Sahar Nasr also. During Al Qudah's meeting with Nasr, an agreement was reached on the establishment of a joint council that groups Egyptian and Jordanian investors and businesspeople. The two sides also agreed on holding an investment forum in Jordan as part of recommendations made during the latest round of the joint higher committee meeting between the two countries.
