CAIRO, March 11, 2018 - Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker on Sunday held a meeting with top officials at the Hydro Power Plants Executive Authority (HPPEA), a statement by the Ministry of Electricity said yesterday. During the meeting, the Chief Executive Officer of HPPEA, Eng Mohamed Osama, reviewed the progress of the work executed in a number of electricity projects, being carried out nationwide. "The project of generating power adopting pumped-storage hydroelectricity technology, with the capacity of 2,400 mega watts in Attaqa region is one of the strategic and vital projects the authority is implementing in co-operation with Sinohydro, a Chinese state-owned hydropower engineering and construction company," Eng Osama said. He added that this project would contribute to boosting the Egyptian Unified Electricity Grid and would be used in storing electricity produced from the renewable sources of energy. This project will include eight units; the capacity of each is around 300 mega watts. Eng Osama also reviewed with the minister of electricity the work completed in Assuit Hydroelectric station whose capacity totals 32 mega watts. He pointed out that the Assuit station includes four units, adding that around 99 per cent of tests and installations of these units were completed. It is scheduled that the project would be operational by the end of next June, 2018, Eng Osama added. By putting this project into operation, around 100 million Egyptian pounds will be saved annually.
