Egypt's Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Essmat, has met with officials from the UAE-based company Alcazar Energy to discuss enhancing cooperation and increasing investment in renewable energy, the ministry said. The meeting focused on the latest developments in the implementation of a 2,000-megawatt (MW) wind energy project being carried out by Alcazar. The officials reviewed the project's progress, the necessary steps to accelerate its implementation, and the timeline for connecting it to the national grid. "The electricity and renewable energy sector is working within the framework of the state's vision for energy transition and the national energy strategy, which has identified increasing reliance on renewables as a primary source of electricity," Essmat said in a statement. He added that work is ongoing to strengthen the grid's capacity to accommodate renewable energy to ensure stability and continuity of supply. The minister said the meeting was part of a continuous follow-up on the implementation of renewable energy project contracts and to address any obstacles that may arise, in order to adhere to the schedules for adding and connecting new capacity. He highlighted the importance of increasing the share of clean energy in the energy mix, which has a significant positive economic impact. The goal is to increase the contribution of renewable energy to more than 42% by 2030 and 60% by 2040, in light of global developments in renewable energy technologies and energy storage systems. Essmat also praised the fruitful cooperation with Emirati companies in the field of renewables, including Alcazar. The meeting was also attended by the deputy minister of electricity, the head of the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company, and the head of the New and Renewable Energy Development Authority.
