Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty visited Port Sudan on Tuesday, delivering a message from President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to Sudanese Sovereign Council Chairperson Gen. Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan.
The visit, the first by an Egyptian foreign minister to Sudan since the outbreak of conflict in April 2023, was undertaken at the direction of President Al-Sisi.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, stated that during the meeting with Al-Burhan, Abdelatty conveyed President Al-Sisi's affirmation of Egypt's deep appreciation for the historic and brotherly ties between Egypt and Sudan and its commitment to working towards Sudan's security and stability.
Khallaf added that the visit aimed to express unwavering solidarity with Sudan at this critical juncture and to stand by a sister nation given the profound bonds between the two peoples.
Abdelatty underscored Egypt's commitment to actively participating in regional and international efforts to achieve stability in Sudan, preserving its interests, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. He also highlighted Egypt's efforts to facilitate Sudan's resumption of its activities within the African Union.
Khallaf further reported that the Port Sudan visit included official consultations between Abdelatty and his Sudanese counterpart, Ali Youssef Al-Sharif, with delegations from both countries in attendance. Abdelatty stressed Egypt's full support for Sudan's leadership and people, and Egypt's commitment to alleviating the suffering of the Sudanese people.

Call for Immediate Ceasefire
Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's call for an immediate ceasefire and the accelerated delivery of humanitarian aid. He emphasized the importance of cooperating with the United Nations, its agencies, and international relief organizations to facilitate humanitarian aid access.
Both sides extensively discussed water security, given their shared status as downstream riparian states on the Nile River. They agreed to continue close coordination and cooperation to safeguard the water security of both Egypt and Sudan.
Meetings with Sudanese Officials
Abdelatty's visit also included a meeting with Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Jaber, a member of the Transitional Sovereign Council and deputy commander-in-chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces. Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's unwavering support for Sudanese national institutions and respect for Sudan's territorial integrity and unity.
The Egyptian foreign minister also met with representatives of the Sudanese business community to bolster cooperation between businesspeople from both countries, explore joint investment opportunities, and leverage the potential of the Egyptian economy to increase bilateral trade. He further met with Sudanese political figures and civil society representatives, as well as members of the Egyptian community in Port Sudan, listening to their concerns and input.
