Egypt's President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi arrived on Tuesday to the Qatari capital Doha for a two-day official visit, where he was received by Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. The visit whcih is the first of its kind for Al-Sisi to the State of Qatar, came in response to an invitation from his Emir Tamim. The visit also is the first of its kind for an Egyptian president to Qatar since the 25th revolution. In a statement on Tuesday, Bassam Rady, the spokesperson for the Egyptian presidency, said that: "The visit comes as a culmination of the intensive mutual discussions during the recent period between the two brotherly countries, with the aim of strengthening the frameworks of joint bilateral cooperation at all levels." Rady added that President Al-Sisi will discuss with the Emir of Qatar the most important axes of bilateral relations that bring together the two brotherly countries, as well as consultation and coordination on various regional and international issues of common interest during the current stage, which require concerted efforts to protect Arab national security. In June, President Al-Sisi received Sheikh Tamim at the Ittihadya Presidential Palace in Cairo, in the first visit of the Qatari Emir to the Egyptian capital city in nearly seven years. The last visit of the Emir of Qatar to Egypt was in 2015 to attend the Arab Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh. The two leaders held a bilateral meeting, followed by expanded discussions that included the delegations of the two countries. Al-Sisi described Tamim's visit as an important step in developing bilateral relations between the two countries in various fields, congratulating the Emir of Qatar on the anniversary of his assumption of power in his country. Diplomatic and political relations between Cairo and Doha were restored following the signing of the Al-Ula agreement in Saudi Arabia in January 2021, in which Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE and Bahrain agreed to end their boycott of Qatar, which began in June 2017.
