Within the framework of the efforts made by Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) to become one of the most important hubs of clean energy production, fuel export, and ships bunkering, which contributes in decarbonisation, Yehia Zaki, Chairperson of SCZone, met with officials of a Belgium company working in the field of manufacturing electrolysers used for converting renewable energy into green fuel.
Zaki also met with representatives of the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), a member of the World Bank Group, which is specialized in providing guarantees and financial support for mega projects. MIGA has shown great interest in supporting green hydrogen production projects which will be established in SCZone.
Moreover, he met with Belgium's Energy Minister Tinne Van der Straeten where she gave an orientation on SCZone, pointing to its potential and assets.
"SCZone has 4 industrial zones and 6 main ports on the Red and the Mediterranean Seas. These assets will accelerate the process of green fuel production. SCZone also targeted 15 other sectors and we encouraged our investors through several financial and nonfinancial incentives," Zaki declared.
"I'm impressed with the progress made by SCZone, especially in the transition to the production of green fuels. I promise to push more Belgium investments in SCZone and utilize its potential in various fields," she said.
The Belgium minister also affirmed her country's aspiration to enhance cooperation with Egypt, pointing to the importance of maximizing the benefit of cooperation opportunities in the field of green hydrogen, especially in coinciding with Egypt's hosting of (COP27) next November.
It is worth mentioning that these meetings were held at the Egyptian embassy in Brussels, in the presence of Badr Abdel-Aty, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Kingdom of Belgium. The meetings were held on the sidelines of SCZone's participation in the Africa Energy forum 2022 in Brussels, which is currently being held from 21-24 June 2022.
