Egypt's trade deficit reached $2.39bn during September 2021, down from $3.08bn for the same period in last year, a decrease of 22.5 %, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics. Egypt's exports increased by 36.6% to $3.45bn during September 2021, versus $2.53bn in September 2020, due to an increase in value of some commodities such as: fertilizers by 90.2%, iron rods by 57.0%, dough and food preparations by 31.5%, and ready-made clothes by 22.6%. Meanwhile, the value of other exports decreased during September 2021, including dairy products by 7.4%, cotton fabrics by 3.1%, furniture by 39.0%, and refined sugar by 60.3%. Egypt's imports increased by 4.2% to $5.84bn during September 2021, versus $5.61bn for the same month of previous year, due to increased value of some commodities such as: plastics in primary forms by 24.2%, crude petroleum by 53.2%, medicines and pharmaceutical preparations by 33.9%, and raw materials of iron and steel by 8.2%. Imports of some commodities decreased in September 2021, including wheat by 30.0%, passenger cars by 22.3%, soybeans by 21.1%, and personal phones by 40.3%.
