Nestle Egypt inaugurated on Thursday its new coffee factory in the industrial zone of the Sixth of October city. The construction of the factory has been completed in 2017 with total investments of EGP 250m. The move came following Nestle's acquisition of Caravan Marketing Company (CMC), a leading Egyptian instant coffee company, and owner of the Bonjorno brand, in January 2017. The new factory built on an area of about 12,740 sqm, and includes the most advanced manufacturing systems. Its labour force amounts to 240 employees, in addition to about 7,000 indirect workers. It also has eight filling lines with a production capacity of 14,000 tonnes with the potential to be increased to 22,000 – 44,000 tonnes in the future. CEO of Nestlé North East Africa, Moataz El Hout, said that that local workforce of Nestle reached almost 3,500 direct employees and the company has invested almost EGP 1bn in developing manufacturing and distribution facilities as well as employees' skills. "We have been part of the Egyptians' lives for over 100 years and we are confident that Egypt offers great business and economic opportunities," El Hout stated. Meanwhile, the Executive Deputy Head of Operations at Nestle, Magdi Batato, said that the new factory reflects Nestle's ambition to invest in Egypt and foster the development of the rapidly growing soluble coffee brand, which has been gaining popularity among Egyptians, pointing out, "We aim to turn the Bonjorno factory into export hub for coffee in the region."
