The Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) announced in its monthly bulletin that the inflation rate in Egypt increased by 0.3% in February compared to January, reaching 267 points compared to 266.3 points. According to the CAPMAS's monthly bulletin, the annual inflation rate in Egypt amounted to 14.3% in February, compared to 31.7% in February 2017. The bulletin explained that this decrease was boosted by the Egyptian pound flotation at the end of 2016. The CAPMAS's bulletin further stated that the price of food and drinks in Egypt increased in February by 0.8% compared to January. Meanwhile, the bulletin pointed out that the price of food and drinks in Egypt increased by 12.9% in February 2018 compared to February 2017. The bulletin explained that the inflation rate in Egypt's urban areas in February fell by 0.3% compared to January, recording 258 points compared to 258.6 points. "On an annual basis, the inflation rate recorded 14.4% in urban areas in February compared to February 2017," according to the CAPMAS. On the other hand, the bulletin stated that the inflation rate increased by 3% in Egypt's rural areas in February, reaching 277.1 points compared to 277.2 points in January. Finally, the bulletin pointed out that the inflation rate recorded 14.1% in Egypt's rural areas in February 2018. The CAPMAS is the official statistical agency of Egypt that collects, processes, analyses, and disseminates statistical data and conducts the country's census.
