El Kady discusses with YOFC final steps to establish optical fibre cable factory
El Kady stressed on the importance of responding to the current increase of domestic demand for optical fibre cables

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Yasser El kady discussed with the Chinese company Yangtze Optical Fibre and Cable Joint Stock Limited Company (YOFC) the final steps for establishing a factory for optical fibre cables in one of the technological zones, in order to serve the increased domestic demand and exports to the region.
El Kady stressed on the importance of developing the telecommunication infrastructure and responding to the current increase of domestic demand for optical fibre cables—especially in light of the development of new cities and regions across the country. This is to provide further support to one of the main aspects in the strategy of the telecommunications and information technology sector, which supports creating a smart technological structure.
YOFC group (a partner of Huawei Global) owns the highest market share in the world in the field of optical fibre cables, and it is one of China ‘s largest investment entities that possesses numerous international investments.
YOFC chose Egypt as a destination to establish its new plant because of the Egyptian administration's willingness and desire to develop and grow their country's mature telecommunications sector. The company's vice president emphasised on the company's appreciation for the quality of Egyptian cadres that deal with precise modern technology.
The Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) held a series of intensive meetings with YOFC in the past period to discuss the technical requirements of the plant and to provide the advisory side, which included the selection of the appropriate location of the plant in one of the new technological zones. Additionally, ITIDA offered to provide technological cadres, especially that the agency provides a technical training programme to develop the field of optical fibre cables production and maintenance.
Asmaa Hosni, CEO of ITIDA; Ahmed El-Sobky, vice president for IT markets development at ITIDA; and representatives of Huawei company in Cairo attended the meeting.
