Egyptian Center for Public Opinion Research (Baseera) conduct poll on the Tamarod, "Rebellion", campaign
Published in Daily News Egypt on 08 - 06 - 2013

The Egyptian Center for Public Opinion Research "Baseera" conducted a public opinion poll at the end of May, on Egyptians' opinion about the Tamarod campaign. Results indicate that 59% of Egyptians have heard of the campaign. Large variations were witnessed among different groups of Egyptians in the awareness of the campaign. Results show that 74% of urban residents have heard of the campaign, compared to 46% of rural residents. The percentage of Egyptians who are aware of the campaign decreases from 80% in urban governorates, to 59% in Lower Egypt and 46% in Upper Egypt.

The results illustrate that the Tamarod campaign has been much more successful in making itself known to those with the highest levels of education than it has to those with lower education levels. The percentage of those aware of the campaign among Egyptians with university degrees is 90%, compared to 72% among those with intermediate or upper intermediate education, and just 43% among those with less than intermediate education.

Respondents who have heard of the campaign were asked if they agree to sign the campaign form, with 50% replying that they do; this figure includes those who have indeed already signed it, as well as those who have not but are amenable to doing so in the future.

The percentage of those who agree to sign on to the campaign in urban areas is 55%, compared to 43% in rural areas. Further, the percentage of those who agree to sign decreases from 60% in urban governorates to 51% in Lower Egypt and 38% in Upper Egypt. The percentage increases from 44% among Egyptians who belong to the lowest economic level to 57% among Egyptians who belong to the highest economic level. There are no clear differences in willingness to sign according to age and level of education.
