BANGKOK: Floods in Thailan's east and north have continued following heavy downpours overnight Monday with a number of areas facing considerable damage, Thai News Agency TNA reported. In the eastern Prachinburi province, rain from last night had caused the Ta Prachum Market in Srimahapote district to remain submerged in one-meter high flood until Tuesday morning, when several roads were heavily inundated and forcing people to evacuate to roadside shelters. In Pitsanulok province in the Lower Thai North, Meuang, Prompiram and Bang Rakam remain inundated, and areas along the old and main Yom River and low lying zones including Baan Mae Ra Han in the Ta Chang locality were flooded and residents were forced to commute by boats. Military officers distributed relief packages and drinking water to residents in the flood stricken areas, where more than 10,000 homes have been damaged. Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit and Science and Technology Minister Plodprasop Surasawasdi on Tuesday visited the Srimahapote district in Prachinburi to inspect the situation.
