NEW DELHI: Despite turmoil surrounding India's national airline, Air India, the airline company is to receive its first Dreamliner on Tuesday, company officials said. According to the Press Trust of India, the national carrier has ordered some 27 Dreamliners and will receive two additional aircraft in early September. The remaining 24 will arrive in the country by 2016. “Three aircraft are ready for delivery at the Boeing's plant in South Carolina. The first one will take off from the United States and is likely to arrive here on Tuesday,” airline sources said in comments published by Bernama news agency. The airline had initially ordered the planes in 2005 and had hoped to receive the first plane in 2008, but delivery was delayed as a result of the financial situation facing Air India as well as labor issues with the maker, Boeing. In late May, Air India was able to make its payment package to the Seattle-based company to deliver the first jet. According to the airline, Dreamliners can carry between 210 and 250 passengers on 14,200 kilometer to 15,200 kilometer routes and uses 20 percent less fuel.
