Sierra Leone President Koroma Exalts Africell over Makeni Clock Tower
Published in Bikya Masr on 29 - 02 - 2012

LAGOS: Africell mobile company has taken the sole responsibility to construct the Makeni clock tower. This earned them showers of praises from Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma recently.
The president told dignitaries and the people of the township at the commissioning of the ultra-modern edifice that Africell's intervention was very timely otherwise, the architect's idea and design would have been meaningless.
Koroma stated, “As a government, we will not be able to do everything alone. I am happy we have companies like Africell which are supporting us in our development drive. The company provided over $200,000 for the clock tower construction. Kudos to the management and staff [of Africell].”
He expressed gratitude to the contracting company, MODCON Construction, for a job well done and the Makeni people for exercising patience during the construction.
“We will have to take a tough decision to demolish all the houses around the clock tower. It is only then that the people will enjoy it. The construction of the clock tower is in line with my government's ‘Agenda for Change', he however noted.
Meanwhile, Ziad Dalloul, Group chairman and chief executive officer of Lintel Holdings of which Africell is a subsidiary stated, “We have all along believed in the potential and future of Sierra Leone. I will like to extend my gratitude to His Excellency for encouraging us to proceed with our first expansion.” He also pointed out that they think of Africell as a true reflection of Sierra Leone – young, vibrant, steadily and confidently walking towards the future.
He dedicated the clock tower to all Sierra Leoneans, especially the people of Makeni, as the company's little contribution in the grand march towards further progress in the country.
