Paris (dpa) – Former International Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strass-Kahn was arrested by French police Tuesday, as part of an investigation into alleged payments to prostitutes at sex parties. Strauss-Kahn – who resigned from the IMF last year after being accused of sexually assaulting a hotel maid in New York – was being held in police custody in Lille, northern France. At issue is whether he knew that women at orgies he admitted attending were paid for their sexual services, a charge he denies. Strauss-Kahn arrived at the Lille police station in a car with tinted windows after being subpoenaed. Another issue police are investigating is whether any payments to the women were made using embezzled corporate money. According to media reports, the women were paid 500-1,600 euros (660-2,120 dollars) to attend sex parties in Paris and New York. Police can hold Strauss-Kahn – one time seen as a likely socialist candidate for the presidency against incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy – for up to 48 hours without charge. The New York case was later dropped without charges. BM ShortURL: http://goo.gl/dbB5S Tags: Arrested, Police, Prostitutes, Strauss Kahn Section: Europe, Latest News, Women
