The Moroccan government and Cisco have partnered to launch a regional Cisco Networking Academy program aimed at developing communication skills and technology education in the North African country. The ministry of education said the move is aimed at providing greater educational training in the ICT sector. “This initiative will allow the department to manage its network and enable skills development for its trainees,” a joint statement from the ministry and Cisco said. According to local reports, the joint agreement aims to provide training to the ministry's IT administrators across the country. “The program will also be introduced into technical high schools throughout Morocco to provide ICT skills training to students. The Networking Academy program provides ICT skills to students globally to improve their career and economic opportunities,” the statement continued. It will be implemented in high schools, universities and technical bodies and according to Cisco, will combine “the theory and practice of designing, developing and implementing the networks that underpin businesses and other organizations.” With Morocco pushing forward on a number of IT initiatives in recent years, the new academies will also develop curricula on security, wireless and IP telephony exposure with the implementation of the latest technology skills in specific sectors. Analysts in the country believe the new partnership will help Morocco push forward on its burgeoning IT sector and computer skills. BM
