CAIRO: The Supreme Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood Mohammed Badie said on Wednesday that the group would be capable of winning 75 percent of parliamentary seats in the upcoming elections in September. He added that this is if the Islamic group nominates candidates for parliament. Badie said in statements to the state-run MENA news agency that the Brotherhood, Egypt`s largest and most organized political group, is not seeking the majority of the parliamentary seats and will only compete for around a third of the parliamentary seats in the upcoming elections in September, despite his belief they could win a massive majority. The Supreme Guide denied having any deals between his group and the ruling Supreme Council of Armed Forces (SCAF) concerning the country's political affairs in the post-revolution phase. He praised the role of the armed forces in helping the revolution succeed. It should be noted that this statement is the first by a Supreme Guide of the group to the official agency since it was established in 1956. The agency had always referred to the group as “the banned group” during the rule of the ousted president Hosni Mubarak. BM
