Sakhr To Participate Tamkeen Competition for the Disabled
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 02 - 10 - 2012

Sakhr software will participate in the competition known as "Tamkeen" (empowerment) which will be held on the 9th of October for supporting people with disabilities. Sakhr will introduce "Ebsar" program, a software for converting text-to-speech in Arabic. It is worth noting that the competition is launched by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in the framework of the Ministry's interest in supporting the disabled and employing technology in its community partnership.
Khalid Al-Askary, CEO of Sakhr, stated that the competition will allow companies to present and exchange their ideas so as to develop a content that can best meet the needs of the people with disabilities.
He further pointed out that the Ministry will support the implementation of the winning program, to be used particularly in the education of the disabled. He added that the registration for joining the competition will start next Thursday.
The competition consists of three phases: First, filling application forms and submitting a paper stating the application's idea; second, developing a pilot model of the application, given that the best model will be granted an award. Shortlisted pilot versions will be allowed to join the third phase which includes the product development.
The competition is based on seven axes including acoustic and touch-oriented technologies, 3D devices, software applications that can be used in communicating sign-language among the hearing impaired, applications and devices using Braille's tactile writing system, ideas relating to opening access to software applications, in addition to Arabicizing the technological applications or games used by people with any disability.
