Egypt's leather exports and its products decreased by ten percent during the January-September 2018 period, according to General Organisation for Export and Import Control (GOEIC). Egypt's leather exports amounted to $80 million during the first nine months of this year, down from $89 million in the same period in 2017, the Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported, GOEIC said on Monday. Leather dyes represented around 95.4 percent of the sector's exports with $76.36 million during the period. Egypt's exports of footwear did not exceed $3.62 million during the first nine months of the year, whereas exports of leather textiles and other products amounted to $500,000, GOIEC said. Importers Ten countries were on the receiving end of Egypt's leather exports, representing 94 percent of total exports or around $75.85 million during the January-September 2018 period, according to GOEIC. Portugal topped the listed of importers of Egyptian leather products with $20.46 million, followed by Italy with $18.32 million, Spain with $15.11 million, and India with 8.44 million. China came in fifth with $4.35 million, followed by Hong Kong and Turkey with $3.72 million and $2.2 million, respectively. Vietnam ranked eighth with $1.82 million, Greece came in ninth with $1.36 million, while the UK and Northern Ireland came in at tenth place with $70,000 in imports of Egyptian leather products.
