Qualcomm launches Snapdragon 845 mobile chipset
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 06 - 12 - 2017

Qualcomm unveiled its next generation flagship processor, the Snapdragon 845 mobile platform at its Snapdragon Tech Summit today.
The mobile platform is the successor to Snapdragon 835, which was launched at CES 2017 and has powered several flagship smartphones of the year including Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, HTC U11, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, LG V30, Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL.
It has already been confirmed that Snapdragon 845 will power Xiaomi's next flagship device. It is likely to power many other upcoming flagship smartphones in the year 2018, too. According to Qualcomm, Snapdragon 845 promises a smarter, faster, safer and a more immersive mobile world. The new mobile platform will focus on artificial intelligence, will offer better security for smartphones and provides more powerful mobile experience.
At the same event, ES Jung, president and general manager of the Samsung Electronics' foundry business announced that the Snapdragon 845 chipsets will be used by Samsung as well. No further details about Snapdragon 845 were disclosed by Qualcomm. It is scheduled to launch the mobile platform tomorrow, and more details about it will follow.
However, various media reports have spoken about the chipset for quite some time now. What we know about Snapdragon 845 from these reports is that it will focus on machine learning, and much like its predecessor, will be a 10nm FinFET chip. It is expected to have a 4+4 octa-core configuration.
Qualcomm also reiterated its partnership with Microsoft and announced that the two companies are working together on Always Connected PCs that come with Windows 10 on Snapdragon.
Taiwanese technology company Asus unveiled its 2-in-1 convertible ASUS NovaGo, which is the world's first ‘Windows on Snapdragon device.' HP also showcased its detachable HP ENVY x2 Windows on Snapdragon Mobile PC at the event.
