Egypt's Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly invited Japan to establish an industrial zone in Egypt, noting that Egypt's trade agreements with several blocs offer strong opportunities. He said Egypt is particularly keen to attract automobile manufacturing and desalination technologies, stressing the country's plans to localise desalination technology and expand green energy production. Madbouly also extended an invitation for Nakano to visit Egypt with Japanese companies to explore investment prospects, according to a Cabinet statement on Thursday. The remarks came during his meeting with Japanese Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Tourism, and Transport Hiromasa Nakano on Thursday on the sidelines of the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) in Yokohama. Madbouly praised Egypt's partnership with Japan in major infrastructure projects, citing ongoing work on Cairo Metro Line 4 with JICA. He highlighted Egypt's recent progress in roads, water, telecommunications, and the construction of 24 new cities, including the New Administrative Capital and New Alamein, and called for broader cooperation with Japanese institutions in Africa under trilateral mechanisms. Nakano welcomed Egypt's proposals, confirmed follow-up on issues under his ministry's scope, and expressed Japan's readiness to cooperate in desalination projects. He also voiced interest in signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance bilateral cooperation and in Egypt's participation in the International Horticultural Expo 2027 in Yokohama.
