Judge Tarek Abu Zeid, first attorney of the South Cairo prosecution, referred 30 Muslim Brotherhood members to the criminal court -- including former supreme guide Mahdy Akef and Freedom and Justice Party leader Saad El-Katatni -- for their involvement in the deadly June clashes in the Manial district and by the Supreme Guidance Office which left dozens of protesters dead. Other prominent Brotherhood partisans referred to the criminal court are leading member Mohamed El-Beltagy, former member of ousted president Mohamed Morsi's presidential team Ayman Hodhod, and former minister of youth Osama Yassin. The defendants are charged with inciting the murder of peaceful protesters and attempted murder, as well as possession of arms and explosives allegedly to be used for "terrorism" during the 30 June anti-Morsi protests, and specifically during the clashes in Manial and the Supreme Guidance Office.
