Egypt's Medium, Small, and Micro Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA) is working with the House of Representatives' Small Projects Committee to amend Law No. 152 of 2020 in an effort to widen its impact and increase the number of enterprises eligible for state support. The proposed amendments raise the financial thresholds defining business categories: * Micro enterprises are redefined as those with annual revenues below 2 million Egyptian pounds. * Small enterprises are those with revenues between 2 million and under 100 million Egyptian pounds. * Medium enterprises now include projects with revenues between 100 million and 400 million Egyptian pounds, or newly established industrial ventures with paid-up capital between 10 million and 30 million Egyptian pounds. MSMEDA CEO Basil Rahmy said the changes are designed to bring more businesses under the law's umbrella, especially those in the informal sector. The amendments also grant MSMEDA's board the authority to adjust these thresholds by up to 50 per cent based on economic conditions. Rahmy noted that the draft was developed in coordination with the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Local Development, and other stakeholders.
