Remittances from Egyptians working abroad surged to an all-time high of $26.4 billion in the first nine months of fiscal year 2024/2025, marking an 82.7% year-on-year increase, the central bank said Wednesday. The rebound in remittance inflows—from $14.4 billion a year earlier—follows months of currency and policy stabilisation measures aimed at restoring investor confidence and bolstering external finances. In the January–March 2025 quarter, inflows jumped 86.6 per cent on an annual basis to $9.4 billion, up from $5.0 billion in the same period the previous year. March alone saw remittances rise 63.7 per cent year-on-year to reach $3.4 billion, compared to $2.1 billion in March 2024. The strong growth in remittances—one of Egypt's largest sources of foreign currency—comes as the country continues to implement key structural and fiscal reforms and attract inflows from the diaspora amid improved exchange rate stability.
