Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty held on Tuesday met with Mauritanian Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Merzouk in Nouakchott to discuss the situation in Gaza and Egypt's efforts to restore the ceasefire and ensure humanitarian aid access. Both ministers reaffirmed their categorical rejection of any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians from their land. They also exchanged views on developments in Libya and Sudan, as well as the situation in the Sahel region and efforts to combat terrorism. The two sides agreed on the need to intensify joint action to reach political and peaceful solutions to these crises, with an emphasis on supporting the nation-state and its institutions. Abdel-Aty expressed Egypt's interest in enhancing bilateral relations with Mauritania across all sectors, particularly in economy and trade. He praised the level of coordination between the two foreign ministries and expressed appreciation for Mauritania's support for Egypt's international nominations, including the candidacy of Khaled El-Anany for the position of UNESCO Director-General. He also voiced hope that the bilateral economic forum would boost cooperation and strengthen ties between the business communities of both countries, highlighting the capabilities of Egyptian companies in executing projects across various sectors.
