Egypt's Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation Rania Al Mashat praised the strength of Egyptian-German economic relations, highlighting a €118 million financial cooperation agreement to support development projects in Egypt's energy and education sectors. Al Mashat made the remarks during a meeting with German Ambassador to Egypt Frank Hartmann to discuss strengthening future development cooperation between the two countries. She added that the agreement includes €54 million in concessional financing and €64 million in financial contributions, allocated to initiatives under the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy and the Ministry of Education and Technical Education. An additional €21 million agreement under the Egypt-Germany debt swap programme will be dedicated to supporting renewable energy projects. The minister noted that Germany has supported various Egyptian development priorities through debt swaps, concessional loans, direct financial contributions, and technical support, especially in areas such as renewable energy, climate change, water and sanitation, irrigation, migration, waste management, and private sector competitiveness, all aligned with Egypt's Vision 2030. Both sides also discussed preparations for the 2025 Egypt-Germany intergovernmental negotiations and the activation of a new tranche of the bilateral debt swap programme, set for December 2025. The bilateral cooperation portfolio between Egypt and Germany currently stands at around €1.6 billion, directed toward strategic projects across priority sectors.
