Egypt's Minister of Planning and Economic Development Rania Al Mashat held talks with a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), headed by Ivana Vladkova Hollar, to review key climate-related reforms linked to the country's application for a $1.3 billion Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF) loan. The discussions focused on three core measures the ministry is implementing: integrating climate standards in project selection under the national development plan, expanding the scope of the green projects platform NWFE (Nexus of Water, Food and Energy), and scaling up the pilot asset registration project alongside climate risk mapping. Al Mashat stressed that the NWFE platform is central to Egypt's resilience financing agenda. She highlighted recent agreements under the initiative, including a seawater desalination project in Sokhna and the development of Zafarana wind power station under the energy pillar, with participation from TAQA Arabia and Voltalia. Additionally, a cooperation agreement was signed with Norway's Scatec to integrate its renewable energy projects into NWFE. Scatec also concluded a power purchase deal with Egyptalum to build a 1 GW solar plant to supply clean energy to its aluminium complex in Nag Hammadi. The minister revealed that the energy pillar of NWFE has secured $3.9 billion in soft financing over two years for 4.2 GW in renewable energy projects. The ministry aims to raise this to $10 billion to support 10 GW in clean energy capacity. Egypt is seeking the IMF's RSF support as part of its 2050 National Climate Strategy and updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English Subediting: M. S. Salama
