Egypt's Sisi: Deporting Palestinians injustice we cannot partake
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 29 - 01 - 2025

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi reaffirmed on Wednesday that deporting the Palestinian people from their homeland is an injustice in which Egypt cannot partake. His remarks came during a joint press conference with Kenyan President William Ruto, whom he received in Cairo on Wednesday.
Addressing the ongoing discussions about the displacement of Palestinians, President Sisi underscored Egypt's unwavering stance on establishing a Palestinian state while preserving its sovereignty, land, and people. He reassured the Egyptian public that national security remains a paramount concern and that Egypt would never tolerate any action that compromises its stability.
"I want to reassure the Egyptian people that we will never allow or accept any infringement on Egypt's national security," Sisi declared. "We are committed to working with President Trump, who has expressed a desire to achieve peace and is capable of advancing the two-state solution."
The Egyptian leader reflected on the root causes of the current crisis, emphasising that the events of 7 October 2023 were the result of decades of unresolved grievances. He pointed out that Palestinians had long lost hope in a fair resolution to their cause, making the pursuit of a two-state solution more crucial than ever.
"The only viable solution to this crisis is the two-state solution," Sisi stated. "This is a historical right that cannot be ignored. The global consensus acknowledges that the Palestinian people have suffered injustice for over 70 years. The solution is not to remove them from their land but to establish two states, where both Israelis and Palestinians can live in security and peace."
Since October 7, 2023, Sisi warned against attempts to make life unbearable in Gaza as a means of forcing its residents to flee. He reiterated that such actions would threaten not only Palestinian rights but also regional stability.
"From the very beginning of this crisis, we have warned against destruction being used as a tool to render Gaza uninhabitable, thereby pushing its people into displacement," he cautioned.
Palestinian deportation to Egypt jeopardises national security
The Egyptian President firmly rejected any suggestion that Egypt should absorb Palestinian refugees, arguing that such a move would jeopardise both Egyptian and Arab national security. He stressed that the matter extends beyond individuals and represents a broader regional principle.
"If I were to agree to accept displaced Palestinians, it would mean undermining Egypt's national security as well as Arab security," Sisi asserted. "The world must understand that the Arab nation has a unified stance on this issue, regardless of individual leaders."
Egyptians refuse deportation
Sisi also predicted that if he were to ask the Egyptian people about hosting Palestinian refugees, they would collectively reject the idea, seeing it as an endorsement of forced displacement.
"If I were to ask the Egyptian people, they would take to the streets, telling me, 'Do not partake in injustice.' Deporting the Palestinian people from their homeland is an injustice in which we cannot partake."
Through his statements, President Sisi reinforced Egypt's commitment to justice, regional stability, and a peaceful resolution based on the two-state solution, firmly rejecting any forced displacement of Palestinians as a means of addressing the conflict.
