Egypt's Minister of Planning, Rania Al-Mashat oversaw the signing of a $1.17 million grant agreement with Japan to modernise the Cairo Opera House, underscoring its importance in preserving Egyptian cultural heritage and promoting artistic innovation. The signing ceremony, held at the Cairo Opera House on Sunday, was attended by Egypt's Minister of Culture Ahmed Fouad Heno and Japan's Ambassador to Egypt, Iwai Fumio, according to a statement from the Egyptian Cabinet. The grant aims to upgrade the National Cultural Centre's infrastructure, including the renovation of the main theatre auditorium, modernisation of equipment, and enhancement of services at the Opera House. Minister Heno lauded the Cairo Opera House as a cultural beacon and a symbol of strong Egypt-Japan ties, expressing gratitude for Japan's continued support. Minister Al-Mashat highlighted the ministry's dedication to strengthening partnerships with Japan, referencing her December visit to Japan, during which three memoranda of understanding (MoUs) were signed, including one to advance the National Cultural Centre's facilities.
