Thousands of citizens protested Friday across five governorates to push for faster trials for those accused of killing protesters during Egypt's revolution and call for the resignation of Interior Minister Mansour al-Essawy. Eyewitnesses said about 2000 protesters gathered in front of Leader Ibrahim Mosque in Alexandria, demanding the prosecution of policemen accused of killing more than 850 protesters during the revolution. About 500 Suez residents demonstrated in Arbaeen Square, demanding the prosecution of ousted President Hosni Mubarak. They condemned violent clashes in Cairo's Tahrir Square, which resulted in more than 1000 injuries on Tuesday and Wednesday, and announced solidarity with Tahrir protesters. Dozens in Ismailia also protested in Shohada Square for Essawy's resignation. In Beheira, members of the 25 January Revolution Youth Coalition, 6 April movement, and Mohamed ElBaradei supporters held a silent protest in Sa'a Square in Damanhour. They held banners that read: "We demand the rights of martyrs", and "Pressing martyrs' families to dismiss cases is unacceptable."
