Egypt's public prosecutor is investigating about 6000 corruption cases, but the number of cases will not affect their outcome, General Hassan al-Roweini and General Mohamed Hegazy, members of the Supreme Council of Armed Forces, said in statements to state television Wednesday. The ruling military council makes decisions in the best interest of the country after discussing a variety of potential plans and solutions, according to SCAF members. The council also said all those arrested in Tahrir Square after protests Friday night and Saturday morning have been released. Verifying the identity of people who were wearing military uniforms is a private matter that only concerns the military, said an SCAF spokesman. According to news reports, army officers who joined demonstrations last week were dismissed from military service a long time ago. The council warned of the economic repercussions stemming from unrest, saying about $6 billion of the Central Bank's foreign reserves were depleted between January and the end of March, leaving $30 billion. The council said economic recovery and the restoration of security are the primary issues facing the country.
