At least 400 protesters were detained during yesterday's anti-government demonstrations, according to Executive Director of the Arab Network for Human Rights Information Gamal Eid. The majority of the detainees were arrested at night when police forcefully dispersed forcefully, Eid said. Demonstrations calling for political and economic reforms rocked Egypt yesterday with tens of thousands taking to the street in several provinces, chanting anti-government slogans, voicing economic grievances and calling for the abolition of the Emergency Law and a regime change. At least three, including a policeman, were killed in the clashes that erupted between protesters and Central Security forces since midday. Police sought to disperse crowds with tear gas, rubber bullets and water canons.
