An Egyptian court on Tuesday postponed until 19 January the trial of a bus driver charged with killing six workmates. Mahmoud Suweilam, driver of a bus for employees at the Arab Contractors Company, fired indiscriminately at his colleagues while driving the bus to a construction site. Six were killed and another six injured in the attack. Prosecutors accused Suweilam of carrying out the premeditated murder of six people, the attempted murder of another six, and the illegal possession of an automatic weapon. Judges at Giza Criminal Court will hear defense lawyers on the date of the trial, according to judicial sources. The court on Wednesday received a report submitted by psychiatrists concerning the defendant's mental condition. According to the report, Suweilam suffers from schizophrenia and paranoia, but doctors said the accounts he delivered to investigators seemed coherent and logical. Suweilam confessed he only intended to kill one of his colleagues who he believed was carrying out excavations under his house in search of ancient monuments.
