The U.S. Embassy in Jordan announced an additional grant to the World Food Programme worth $65 million for Syrian refugees, Al-Bawaba News reported Thursday. The World Food Program provides food aid to about six million Syrian refugees per month, and it has recently threatened that its activities could be suspended by August due to the lack of funding. Since the outbreak of the Syrian crisis in mid-March 2011 and so far, Jordan hosts more than 1,400,000 Syrian refugees. According to the statement, an amount of $21.3 million of the total grant will go for Jordan as it hosts the largest number of Syrian refugees on its land. The U.S. support for Food Program operations has exceeded $1,2 billion, dividded as follow: Jordan was allocated 245 million dollars, Lebanon $ 311 million and Turkey $75 million.
