Spokesperson for Egypt's military, Brigadier General Mohamed Samir released on Monday the results of the army's operations against terrorists in North Sinai since July 1, State media reported. The military statement stated that the army killed 241 terrorists and arrested 33 terror suspects. The operation also led to the destruction of 26 vehicles belonging to terrorists, including 11 Land Cruisers, 10 Thai cars (one of which was stuffed with explosives), and four small trucks. Samir added the armed forces succeeded in destroying 28 motorcycles and exploding 16 IEDs that targeted security checkpoints as well as shelling four terrorist hotbeds. The forces managed to seize a large amount of different types of weapons including, mortar launchers, machine guns, sniper rifles and explosive belts as well as wireless communication devices. Since September 2013, the Egyptian army has been carrying out an ongoing military campaign against the Islamic State-linked Wilayat Sinai after it claimed several deadly attacks targeting Egyptian military and police personnel.
