The only way to combat terrorism is to demolish poverty and illiteracy, Egypt's President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi said on Tuesday. Sisi added, in his televised speech on Tuesday, that Al-Azhar, religious scholars and Egyptian intellectuals work to renew the religious discourse to undermine the terrorist ideas. The President stressed that the different institutions exert their efforts to combat terrorism to pave the way for achieving stability and security and to push forward the development process. He added that the security forces arrested 600 terrorists in one month and defused 122 explosive devices, as well as destroying 150 terrorist outposts. During the speech, Sisi appreciated Sinai's residents for their support to the army and police. He pledged to launch a number of projects aiming to secure development in Sinai. Since September 2013, the Egyptian army has been carrying out an ongoing military campaign against terrorist groups in Sinai after they claimed responsibility for deadly attacks targeting Egyptian army and police personnel.
