Multiple Oscar Nominations for The Grand Budapest Hotel, Birdman, Interstellar, Gone Girl, and American Sniper

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the nominations for the 87th Oscars with The Grand Budapest Hotel and Birdman landing 9 nominations each, the most any film received this year.
Following its multiple Golden Globe wins Birdman received nominations for Best Picture, Directing for Alejandro G. Iñárritu _his third Oscar nomination_.
The film marked a strong contest in the acting category with the first nomination for Michael Keaton for Actor in a Leading Role, the first nomination for Emma Stone for Actress in a Supporting Role and a nomination for Actor in a Supporting Role for Edward Norton, the third for Norton. Birdman also received nominations for Cinematography, Writing (Original Screenplay), Sound Editing and Sound Mixing.
Wes Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel became a surprise contender earning Anderson nominations for Best Picture, Directing and Writing (Original Screenplay). The stunning visuals of the film won it nominations for Cinematography, Makeup and Hairstyling, Production Design, Costume Design and Film Editing. The film also received a nomination for Music (Original Score) for Alexandre Desplat, the composer's eighth nomination.
American Sniper, Clint Eastwood's latest directorial effort, received 6 nominations for Best Picture, Actor in a Leading Role for Bradley Cooper, Writing (Adapted Screenplay), Film Editing, Sound Editing and Sound Mixing.
Interstellar, one of the top 10 highest grossing films of 2014 earned nominations for Music (Original Score) for Hans Zimmer, Production Design, Visual Effects, Sound Editing and Sound Mixing.
Rosamund Pike received her first Oscar nomination for Actress in a Leading Role for her portrayal of Amy Dunne in Gone Girl. Wild received two nominations in the acting categories; an Actress in a Leading Role for Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon and Actress in a Supporting Role for Laura Dern. Veteran actor and Oscar winner Robert Duvall received an Actor in a Supporting Role for his role in The Judge.
Dreamwork's How to Train Your Dragon 2 was nominated for Animated Feature Film, while Inherent Vice received 2 nominations for Costume Design and Writing (Adapted Screenplay).
X-Men: Days of the Future Past and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes received nominations for Visual Effects. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies received a nomination for Sound Editing.
The soundtrack of The LEGO Movie "Everything is Awesome", earned the film a nomination for Music (Original Song), while the song Lost Stars from Begin Again earned a nomination in the same category.
United Motion Pictures, released The Grand Budapest Hotel, Interstellar, Gone Girl, The Judge, How to Train Your Dragon 2, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, The LEGO Movie and Begin Again in theatres 2014.
