What a mess
Published in Al-Ahram Weekly on 29 - 10 - 2014

The world has gone mad! The gates to the madhouse have been unbarred and the inmates are not only running loose, but ruling the world. What are we poor, sane mortals to do?
Indecision, poor decision, late decision or lack of decision, all this lunacy lies on the shoulders of Obama! What on earth is he doing, and why is he doing it? Is it inexperience, ignorance, detachment, arrogance, insincerity, neglect, aloofness or a perfect combination of all the above? His golden promises have turned to dust. Unlike Midas, everything he touches turns to rust.
The highly reputable and reliable CDC, (Centre for Disease Control), has quaked and quivered under his leadership. And is Ebola his fault too, you ask? Not directly, but if you read Dr Leonard Horowitz, 1996 best-seller, “Emerging Viruses”, you may be convinced that the blame does fall at least on his country. Obama has simply added exponentially to the mess the US has unfurled.
The misconception about Islam has been perpetrated extensively by the West and its biased media, on its editorial pages and daily TV talk shows. Google-educated, lecturing, preaching, pontificating, sermonising, the army of the misinformed comes out, one by one to tell us what Islam is, what ‘Sharia' is, what Jihad is, without the slightest idea of what they are writing or uttering. They are experts on Daesh or ISIS, Al-Qaeda, Taliban, MB or: ”Monstrous Brotherhood”, and anyone who spent time in Iraq or visited the Middle-East, is the ‘expert' who informs the world about this “religion of the sword”, and the 1000- year war between the Shia and the Sunni sects, without the slightest understanding of either.
Those ‘experts' write books with absurd and ludicrous premises, far beyond their limited reach, and the gullible gobble it up without question.
And how do Muslims counter-attack this assault on their faith? They unleash the godless ISIS!
“What a fine mess you got me into” complained Hardy to Laurel, regularly. For those unfamiliar with the comedic duo “Laurel and Hardy”, Google can oblige!
There are matters too insolent and offensive to be overlooked. To ridicule the phrase “Allah Akbar” is to ridicule God Almighty. Allah is simply the name of GOD in Arabic, also used by Christians. Who dares mock ‘Dieu' in French, ‘Dios' in Spanish, ‘Gott' in German and ‘YHVH' or: ”Elohim” in Hebrew? Mock the criminal, but the name of God in any language is not to be scoffed at! Exploited by the despicable ISIS or any other isolated, criminal Muslim group is no justification to use the name of God in vain. Educate yourselves all you ‘experts' out there!
Who among you has tried to decipher this conundrum? How did this great big mess come to be? Did it start with the Gulf Wars, with the Iraq/ Iran war? Why did 4000 Americans die in Iraq? If they could, would they not ask why they were there!
Did it start with the establishment of the new state of Israel when the UN robbed the Palestinians of their homeland, or did it start well before that? Was it 100 years ago, during the Great War, WW1, when Great Britain and Imperial France, while fighting the Ottomans decided to divvy up their protectorates, and why not, to the victor belong the spoils!
Britain and France delegated two minor diplomats Sir Mark Sykes, and Monsieur Georges-Francois Picot to play with the map of the Ottoman Empire and find a spot to secure a homeland for the Jews, to fulfil an agreement with the Zionists and Lord Balfour, leader of the initiative in the British government.
This all started in 1914/1915. The Russians were informed but paid little heed to the matter as they were too involved in their own revolution. Meanwhile the Brits were whispering sweet lies to the Arabs, who were not privy to all the details and the deception.
Following their successful revolution, the Russians decided to reveal the Balfour declaration to the embarrassment of the British. In later years foreign secretary Mr Jack Straw, admitted that the ‘Balfour Declaration' and the contradictory assurances made to Palestine in private: “were not an entirely honourable part of our history”.
It was indeed shameful and pitiable! Crimes committed in the name of Islam are deplorable to all Muslims and their Allah. They disobey all the edicts of Islam which, like it or not, is a religion of peace.
Leader of the Satanic ISIS movement, while kneeling in prayer at ‘Al-Nour' Mosque in Mosul, pledged: “this blessed advance will not stop until we hit the last nail in the coffin of the Sykes-Picot conspiracy”.
The geo-political architecture of ‘Sykes-Picot' has all but disappeared within 100 years, and the myopic arrogance of the imperialists who bestowed their leftovers on an inept rookie, while the madmen chuckle and cackle.
Obama's many broken promises has demoted the US, and left the Middle-East, the Muslim and the Arab world in shambles.
Did it all fall to pieces when he spoke at Cairo University, when he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize – for NOTHING, or is it the absence of wisdom that will likely lead to disaster?
Whatever, whenever, whoever, we have a mess on our hands and no one to clean it up!
“There is only one religion, though there are a hundred versions of it”
George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950)
