Al-Gamaa Al-Islamiya's Adel El-Khayat resigns as governor of Luxor

Luxor Governor Adel El-Khayat, a member of ultra-conservative Al-Gamaa Al-Islamiya, has resigned.
Al-Khayat blamed his resignation on "an unjust media campaign" against him.
Khayat's appointment stirred controversy due to Al-Gamaa Al-Islamiya role in the murder of at least 58 tourists and 4 Egyptians in a terrorist attack in Luxor in 1997.
