Galaxy will be without Ibrahimovic vs. struggling Quakes
Published in Ahram Online on 25 - 05 - 2018

The Los Angeles Galaxy will be without Swedish star Zlatan Ibrahimovic when they host the San Jose Earthquakes on Friday night at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif.
The veteran forward is sitting out after drawing a red card for slapping Montreal's Michael Petrasso in the 41st minute Monday during LA's 1-0 victory.
The win halted a four-game slide for the underperforming Galaxy (4-6-1), a stretch that greatly frustrated Ibrahimovic.
"We've talked about that and he wants to win," Galaxy coach Sigi Schmid told reporters. "He's more frustrated at us not being able to get results than anything else."
The Earthquakes (2-6-3) are highly disappointed at their poor start, and they were badly outplayed in last Saturday in a 3-1 home loss against D.C. United.
"We came out totally wrong," San Jose coach Mikael Stahre told reporters. "We created mistakes with the ball. We couldn't press them good enough and they could easily find space behind us. To be frank, they were much better than us."
The Earthquakes have won just one of their past 10 matches after winning their season opener.
San Jose forward Danny Hoesen has been solid with six goals while midfielder Magnus Eriksson has added three. Hoesen has scored a goal in three consecutive matches.
Midfielder Ola Kamara leads LA with five goals, including one in four consecutive matches. His decisive goal against Montreal came in the 75th minute.
"I love scoring. It's the best feeling ever, and even if I'm playing on the wing, I'm trying to get in striker positions all the time," Kamara said after the victory over the Impact. "When Zlatan got the red card, I played on top and I was able to get a match-winning goal.
"It was a great feeling for me. We really needed that win after four losses."
Ibrahimovic ranks second on the squad with three goals.
The Galaxy allowed 11 goals during their four-game slide before David Bingham made five saves against Montreal while recording his third shutout of the campaign. Bingham is in his first season with the Galaxy after playing the previous seven years for the Earthquakes.
LA leads the all-time "California Clasico" series 30-22-14 and is 19-6-6 at home versus San Jose.
