Nigeria's U-23 coach Augustine Eguavoen admits he failed to achieve his targets, leaves his job

Nigeria's U-23 coach Augustine Eguavoen has decided to leave his post after his team failed to qualify for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
“I have decided to resign as coach of the national U-23 team despite all the support I received from the NFF," the coach said in his resignation letter, addressed to the National Football Federation (NFF) on Monday.
Despite thrashing Algeria 4-1 in the final match day of the CAF U-23 championship, Nigeria failed to qualify for the semi-final when they came third in group A with only three points, after conceding two early defeats against hosts Morocco and Senegal.
Eguavoen has expressed his regret for not fulfilling the Nigerians' ambitions, insisting that departure is the best choice for him.
“I'm so sorry I couldn't make it. I think it's just honourable for me to resign after failing to meet the set targets,” he added.
