Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi received Gabriela Michetti, vice president of Argentina, in Cairo on Sunday, according to presidential spokesperson Alaa Youssef. Michetti is in Egypt to mark 70 years of diplomatic ties between the two nations, meeting with El-Sisi at the Egyptian presidential palace. El-Sisi pointed to his meeting with President Mauricio Macri on the sidelines of the 2016 G20 summit in China, saying the encounter established new horizons in relations between Cairo and Buenos Aires. The Egyptian president also hailed the Argentinian parliament's ratification of a free-trade agreement between Egypt and the Mercosur economic and political bloc, which is comprised of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela. El-Sisi also stressed the need to boost trade relations via the Egyptian-Argentine economic and commercial committee. Mitchetti, meanwhile, emphasized the significance of her visit to Egypt as a key player on the regional and international stage, vowing a new phase in relations between the nations at all levels. She said the talks included discussion of bilateral cooperation on counter terrorism.
