PROGRAMME: CairoComix showcases Egyptian and int'l artists in 2nd edition
Published in Ahram Online on 01 - 10 - 2016

The second edition of CairoComix, a 3-day immersion into the world of comics, with exhibitions, competition and symposiums centered on the theme of storytelling, kicked off Friday and runs till 2 October,
The festival brings more than 30 artists, exhibitors, publishers and experts from around the world—and the region especially—to the heart of Cairo's budding comics' community.
CairoComix first edition was organised in 2015.
This edition's exhibitions will feature Abo El-Zorafaa, the 1990s comic created by the late artist Naguib Farah (1953-2015) for the popular Maged magazine; and Shamareekh exhibition, which will display the best comics selected from open submissions.
Winner of the competition for best submission will receive a fully funded trip to the Angoulame comics festival in 2017.
As part of this year's event, the CairoComix is co-hosting a symposium titled El-Sotooh (On the Roof) with the French Institute at the Goethe Institute.
This year's special guests include Reinhard Kleist from Germany, Mazen Kerbaj from Lebanon, Andy Warner from USA, and Paul Gravett from England.
El-Leqaa El-Gamaheery (Meeting with the Audience) will feature the Comic Souk (Market), film screenings, and special features of the artists at work as well as book signings.
Book signings with the artists will be offered every evening from 5pm to 7pm at the French Institute.
The artists who created Cairo Comix include Shennawy, co-founder of Tok Tok magazine and manager of The 9th Art Foundation; Magdy El-Shafei, author of the graphic novel Metro and Twins Cartoon; and brothers Mohammed and Haytham Ra'fat behind Garage comic magazine and founders of Kawkab El-Rasameen.
