Two Egyptian Greco-Roman wrestlers lost Sunday their tournament openers, waving goodbye to the Rio 2016 Olympics. In the under 75kg event, Mahmoud Fawzy Rashad, 24, lost to Elvin Mursaliyev of Azerbaijan, who won bronze in the 2014 European Championship and gold in the first European Games, in Baku 2015. He lost 2-1 by technical points against the 27-year-old Azerbaijan champion. In the 59kg event, Haitham Mahmoud lost 8-3 to Chol Yun of DPR Korea who won bronze in the Asian Championship in 2013 and 2014. Egypt still has four more Greco-Roman wrestlers in Rio. Abdellatif Mohamed, 130kg, and Ahmed Mohamed Saad, 85kg, will kick off their campaign Monday while Adham Ahmed Saleh, 66kg, and Hamdy Mostafa, 98kg, will start their bid a day later. Egypt's wrestling team missed the country's best-ever Olympian, Karam Gaber, who is serving a two-year suspension for evading doping tests. The Alexandria-born wrestler Gaber won Egypt's last gold medal when he came out on top at the 2004 Athens Games in the 96kg category. He was also the only Egyptian wrestler to win a medal at the 2012 London Games, having clinched silver in the 84kg category.
