Twelfth Bibliotheca Alexandrina Summer Festival closes with a performance by Les Petits Chats singers, four musicians from a band which rose to unprecedented fame in Egypt in the 1960s and 70s
“I've lived a life that's full/ I've travelled each and every highway / And more, much more than this, / I did it my way...”
In the voice of Wagdi Francis, Frank Sinatra's iconic My Way is reminiscent of the old days when thousands of rapturous fans filled the gardens of the Palestine Hotel in Alexandria's Montazah resort, cheering on their beloved pop band Les Petits Chats.
The four men from the original band -- vocalists Sadek Gallini, Sobhi Bidair, Wagdi Francis along with guitarist Pino Phares -- reunited once again, this time at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina's open air theatre.
Their concert held on 2 September closed the 12th Bibliotheca Alexandrina SummerFestival.
In this special concert, Les Petits Chats were joined by Nayer Nagui who worked on the songs' arrangements and played piano.
Rami Soussou played keyboards, Elhamy Amin percussion. The backing vocals included members of Sobhi and Friends: Jacqueline Rafik, Noha Kaiss, Mona Salah and Maha Mohamed.
This year's festival, which ran between 6 August and 2 September, witnessed large audiences of all generations flocking to the Bibliotheca to attend a variety of performances. According to the library's management, the festival saw particularly high ticket sales, with audiences filling completely the venue's large plaza during open air concerts.
Ahram Online followed Les Petits Chats singers during theirrehearsals in Cairo, final preparations in Alexandria and at the concert.
