Egypt's microbus drivers protest low bus fares and large fines
Angry microbus drivers staged a protest in front of the Giza governorate headquarters, which led to clashes

Tens of microbus drivers protested today in front of the Giza governorate headquarters.
The drivers are angry at bus fare prices, and the amount of fines they frequently pay, which sometimes reached LE50,000.
The protesters tried to block the road in front of the headquarters,which led to clashes between them and several car drivers who were irritated that they couldn't pass through the streets.
The clashes led officers from the nearby Omarneya Police Station to intervene. The drivers also chose several representatives to meet with the governor to discuss their problems and they were told that their demands would be met within a week.
Yesterday, a number of microbus drivers staged a demonstration in the district of Isaaf, in downtown Cairo, calling for the reduction of parking ticket fines.‎
