Clocks in Egypt to go back one hour during Ramadan Egyptians will turn back their clocks one hour during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, which lasts from 27 June until 1 August
Clocks will go back one hour during Ramadan, a cabinet spokesperson announced via Facebook on Friday. The time change, which reduces daylight hours, will last from 27 June until 1 August. In April 2011, the cabinet headed by prime minister Essam Sharaf endorsed a decree cancelling daylight saving time. Daylight saving time was first adopted in Egypt in 1988 as a way to reduce electricity consumption. The energy ministry later submitted a study to the cabinet showing the move had no impact on energy consumption. In Egypt, standard time is GMT (UTC)+2. Daylight saving time is GMT+3. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/104222.aspx
