El-Sisi's campaign denies interview with Kuwaiti paper Comments reported by Kuwaiti paper on Friday were amalgamation of previous quotes, say El-Sisi's representatives
The official campaign of Egypt's president-elect, Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, has said that aninterviewwith the former military chief published by a Kuwaiti newspaper on Friday is "fabricated." "The field marshal did not make any statements to the paper mentioned [Al-Jarida]. What was published are statements and quotes made by the field marshal in several previous interviews," read the statement issued on Friday, adding that the "fabricated" interview violates the ethics and rules of journalism. The campaign further urged media outlets to abide by the standards and code of ethics of journalism, "especially as the coming stage requires national alignment." This is not the first time that an interview by El-Sisi to a Kuwaiti publication has been officially questioned. In February, prior to El-Sisi's resignation from the army in order to stand in the elections, Kuwaiti paper Al-Siyasi published a lengthy interview claiming that the military chief had officially announced his presidential candidacy. A spokesman for the Egyptian armed forces later said that El-Sisi had been inaccurate quoted and had not yet declared he would run. The interview published by the Kuwaiti paper on Friday was touted as El-Sisi's first public comments since unofficial vote tallies showed that he had garnered well over 90 percent of votes cast in this week's presidential election, outflanking rival Hamdeen Sabahi. The official results of the elections are due on 3-4 June. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/102551.aspx
