Al Bawaba News reported Tuesday that Al Shabab Somali militants had killed a man Monday and wounded three others during an attack on the town of Mandera, northern Kenya. Mandera's Deputy chief of police, Elvis Courier announced that Al Shabab militants had opened fire on a group of shoppers, killing a man on the spot and wounding three others. The gunmen opened fire randomly at the shoppers, before fleeing the scene in the direction of the Somali border. Spokesman for Al Shabab, which declared allegiance to Al Qaeda, claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement broadcasted on Andalus Radio, which supports the movement. On Friday, Al Shabab had also claimed responsibility for an ambush on the governor of Mandera, Ali Rupa, who survived the attack while three of his bodyguards were killed, according to the Kenyan Red Cross. Mandera, located northeast of the Kenya-Somali border, has been subjected to acts of violence and attacks by the movement on a regular basis.
